A BIT OF
INTERNATIONAL PENCAK SILAT FEDERATION

   International Pencak Silat Federation, abbreviated as PERSILAT was established on March 11,1980 as the result of a conference in the presence of Indonesian PencakSilat Association (Ikatan Pencak Silat Indonesia (IPSI), established in1948), Singaporean Silat Federation (Persekutuan Silat Singapura (PERSISI), established in 1973) and representative of the Ministry of Culture, Youthand Sports of Malaysia and observer from Brunei Darussalam taking place at Anjungan Jawa Barat, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah.
     In the provision of PERSILAT establishment it was agreed to determine IPSI, PERSISI, MALAYSIA, and BRUNEI DARUSSALAM as the Founding members. As the followup of PERSILAT presence through the hard work by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Malaysia it was established in 1983, the Persekutuan Silat Kebangsaan Malaysia (PESAKA) (Malaysian Silat Federation) in a greatmeeting of Perguruan Silat 14 Negeri, followed by another one in 1987 with the establishment of Persekutuan Silat Kebangsaan Brunei Darussalam (PERSIB). It was also agreed to determine the four founding countries as Pencak Silat source countries.
     The presence of PERSILAT constitutes as consequence of Pencak Silat development outside Pencak Silat source region, particularly in Europe and Australia. Pencak Silat as Malay cultural heritage should be able to be preserved, built and developed in line with the noble values contained in Pencak Silat. It is based on the mutual responsibility that International Pencak Silat building and development is launched through PERSILAT, which basically is an effort in maintaining and improving harmonious life and honoring one another among nations.

MANAGEMENT
     PERSILAT management reflects the four Founding Countries, however since its establishment in 1980, the management of PERSILAT has been trusted to IPSI.
     PERSILAT plenary meeting constitutes evaluation forum of annual program implementation and the composition of the following year's work program and is only attended mby the management representing the four founding countries. Congress as a meeting forum in the presence of all members held once in four years was held in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and for the last time in Jakarta in 1991.

PERSILAT MEMBERSHIP
     PERSILATconstitution distinguishes membership into three groups, namely the Founding Member, Associated Member and Affiliated Member.
     Associated Member is a national level Pencak Silat organization of a certain country, the existence of which has been recognized by the relevant Government Agencyof the country concerned whereas Affiliated Member is a Pencak Silat organizationof either perguruan level if having no national organization or national level Organization however not yet acknowledged by the relevant agency of the country concerned.
     There have been so far six countries registered in Associated member status:
Thailand Pencak Silat Association(PSTA), Philippine Pencak Silat Association (PHILSILAT), de Nederland Pencak Silat Bond (NPSB), Pencak Silat Verband Osterieiht (PSVO), Pencak Silat Espana (PSE), Suriname Pencak Silat Associatie (SPSA).
     Affiliated Member consists of 7 countries:
Pencak Silat Union Deutshland (PSUD), Belgium Pencak Silat Bond (BPSB), Perguruan Mande Muda (SWISS), Pencak Silat of Great Britain (PSGB), Pencak Silat Federation of France (PSFF), Pencak Silat of Turkey (PST), Perguruan Mande Muda (USA) and Perguruan Pencak Silat De Yong (Australia).
In the status of member to be are:
Morocco, Greece, Palestine, and Norway

PENCAK SILAT BUILDING PROGRAM
     PERSILAT Building Program refers to the building and development of organization, Pencak Silat olahraga and Seni-Beladiri through up-grading of the Organizers,Trainers and Referee-Jury and conducted at Pencak Silat source countries or at Associated/Affiliated Member's countries.
     Series of championship is commenced from national, regional or international level as Open Tournament or Invitation or official championship, conducted by means of integrated program coordination system.
     Within ASEAN countries Pencak Silat has become official branch could be contested in SEA GAMES.
